Job summary

IBM Consulting UK FutureNow in Manchester is seeking an Automation Test Engineer to join our public sector and defence projects. You will design, develop and maintain automated test scripts for UI, API and integration testing, and you’ll help integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines.

You’ll work with Java and Python, use REST-assured, Selenium Grid and related tools to raise quality and accelerate delivery, collaborating with DevOps and developers in an agile, delivery‑focused environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with programming and automation tools such as Java, Python, REST-assured, Selenium Grid, Serenity, Jenkins, Maven and Postman.
• Maintain detailed documentation of the test framework, tests, outcomes and defects.
• Develop and maintain automation frameworks for API integration and UI based products.
• Deep understanding of software testing principles and event‑driven architectures.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for functional, regression, integration, performance, and API testing.
• Build automation frameworks using industry‑standard tools and modern languages.
• Develop optimized test scenarios aligned to acceptance criteria with strong coverage.
• Automate test environment setup, execution, data management, and validation.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines with DevOps support.
• Contribute to quality engineering practices within Agile, DevOps, and container‑based delivery.
• Monitor test execution, troubleshoot issues, and provide insights to developers.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve product quality and promote automation.
• Participate in requirements analysis, sprint planning, and backlog refinement.
• Encourage adoption of automation tools, frameworks, and best practices across teams.
• Ensure SCRUM best practices: test estimation, coverage, traceability, defects, evidencing, closure.
