We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Manager to lead the Automation and Controls Systems organisation for the Power Conversion & Storage, Norther Europe business. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the execution of controls projects across marine, energy and industrial applications for both new builds and services. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of engineering principles and practices, as well as a strong leadership ability to guide multidisciplinary teams towards achieving project goals.
Essential responsibilities
Lead and line-manage two-tier engineering teams, ensuring the overall solution meets customer, contractual and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical and operational leadership to the business in support of backlog delivery and future business growth.
Ensure effective engineering planning and operational excellence.
Uphold the principles of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) within the teams.
Work closely with Business Engineering leaders to plan execution strategies, provide engineering estimates, identify risks and put mitigation strategies for new opportunities
Identify and drive improvements in engineering, operational tools, processes, systems & technical solutions to improve our customer value and business efficiency.
Support the Application Engineers, Sales and Business Engineering Leaders in the preparation of bids, proposals, estimates and technical risk assessments to secure quality future orders.
Lead efforts to enhance quality standards and best practices across the team, striving for excellence in collaboration with fellow Engineering team leaders.
Mentor and coach wider teams to ensure team members are developed and continue to grow in their role.
Provide technical overview and insight through periodic project reviews.
Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous improvement and learning.
Comply with all company and customer health and safety regulations as required.
Qualification
Degree in industrial control systems, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, or a related field.
Chartered Engineer (or working towards) with a proven record of continuous professional development.
Proven experience in automation and control systems engineering, with a track record of successful project leadership.
Desired Characteristics
Experience:
Strong knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, HMI, DCS, Networks, and other related automation and controls technologies.
Experienced Engineering Leader – Technical & Operational.
Experience of leading and managing an engineering team from project delivery through the full project lifecycle from pre-bid to project hand-over into service.
Experience of multi-discipline system integration projects.
Basic knowledge of OT cybersecurity (standards such as IEC62443/NIST etc.) and functional safety per IEC 61508 is advantageous.
