Automation Software Engineer

Location: Greater Manchester

Salary: £45,000 – £52,000 + Benefits

Type: Full-time, Permanent

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Automation Software Engineer to join a well-established engineering company based in Greater Manchester. You’ll be part of a skilled team working on the development and configuration of automation software for packaging machinery — including new builds, R&D, and retrofit projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Programming Siemens PLCs, SCADA, and drive systems (TIA Portal, WinCC, Sinamics S120)
2. Creating and adapting automation software for standard and bespoke machinery
3. Supporting commissioning and troubleshooting, both on-site and internationally
4. Managing your own software design projects and liaising with internal and external stakeholders

What We’re Looking For:

• Strong experience in Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC SCADA programming
• Familiarity with Sinamics S120 & CU320 drive systems
• Understanding of machine control systems including pneumatics, hydraulics, and FieldBus
• Degree or HND in Engineering (Electrical, Automation, or related discipline)
• Willingness to travel globally when required
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Desirable:

• Electrical design experience (control cabinets)
• Roll-to-roll winding knowledge
• Experience in machinery commissioning
