Job summary

Energy Jobline CVL Basildon is seeking an automation engineering professional to lead development and delivery of automation and control systems. You will work with electrical engineers to shape control philosophies and architectures, and you will specify, develop and test PLC/HMI/SCADA software for industrial machinery.

The role covers FAT, SAT, installation, and commissioning activities both in-house and on customer sites. A strong background in Siemens tools and safety standards is essential.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND, Degree, Apprenticeship, or equivalent in Automation/Electrical/Controls/Mechatronics or related field
• Proficiency in PLC/HMI/SCADA development, preferably Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC
• Good understanding of industrial networks, drives, motion control, safety systems, instrumentation
• Knowledge of machinery safety standards & regulations
• Experience programming PLC/HMI/SCADA in machine-building/manufacturing
• Proven design, development, and commissioning of automation & control systems

Responsibilities

• Lead development and delivery of automation and control systems from concept through commissioning and handover
• Collaborate with electrical design engineers on machine control philosophies and architectures
• Specify, develop, test, and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, safety, motion, and vision software
• Produce technical documentation including specs, philosophies, software docs, and FAT/SAT records
• Support FAT, SAT, installation and commissioning at in-house and customer sites

Your new role:

Based in South Essex, you will be joining a well-known manufacturing company which specialises in the design, manufacturing, build and installation of automated machinery working in several industries. With a large order book and continuous projects for the next 3-6 years, this is an excellent time to join an ever-expanding business.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Lead the development and delivery of automation and control systems from concept through to commissioning and customer handover
• Work with electrical design engineers to develop machine control philosophies, electrical architectures, and overall system designs
• Specify, develop, test, and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, functional safety, motion control, vision, and associated software applications
• Produce and maintain technical documentation including functional specifications, control philosophies, software documentation, and commissioning records
• Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), machine installation, and commissioning activities both in-house and at customer sites

Skills & Experience required:

• HNC/HND, Degree, Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
• Proficiency in PLC, HMI, and SCADA software development, preferably using Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC, Sick safety systems, Tatsoft
• Good understanding of industrial networks, drives, motion control, machine safety systems, instrumentation, and industrial communications
• Knowledge of machinery safety standards & regulations
• Experience programming PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems within a machine-building, manufacturing, or process automation environment.
• Proven experience in the design, development, and commissioning of industrial automation and control systems.
