Automation Engineer - North-West | Food Manufacturing / FMCG | Monday to Friday | £60,000 - £65,000

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer with hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs, HMI systems, and TIA Portal for programming, fault-finding, and system optimisation. This role will focus on the programming, configuration, and maintenance of automated systems, ensuring optimum performance and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and program control systems using Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal.
• Configure, test, and maintain HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems.
• Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, and root cause analysis on automation equipment to minimise downtime.
• Modify and optimise existing control systems to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including software backups, change logs, and schematics.
• Support commissioning and installation of new equipment and upgrades.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (maintenance, production, engineering) to troubleshoot and resolve automation issues.
• Ensure all automation systems comply with relevant safety and quality standards.

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience programming and commissioning Siemens PLCs (S7 family preferred) using TIA Portal.
• Strong knowledge of HMI development/configuration
• Solid understanding of industrial automation networks, sensors, and instrumentation.
• Demonstrated ability to interrogate and fault-find control systems quickly and effectively.
