Job description

Automation Engineer

Yolk Recruitment is exclusively working with an established manufacturer that has experienced sustained growth for over 10 years. With continued investment, they are now looking to recruit a Control Systems / Automation Engineer.

The client holds over 60% market share for their product, producing over 4 million units per week. They have invested in a state-of-the-art, fully automated production facility and are building an automation team to stay at the forefront of Industry 4.0 technology.

This is what you'll be doing

As an Automation Engineer, you will join the team as a technical leader, reporting to the Engineering Manager. You will be responsible for CAPEX and upgrade projects, working with the internal team to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Planned Preventative Maintenance systems (PPM).

Your responsibilities include overseeing site improvements, energy reduction, achieving OEE targets, and developing machinery.

Main tasks will include:

  • Providing specialist engineering support to manufacturing operations, both reactive and preventative.
  • Designing, configuring, installing, commissioning, and maintaining IT communication networks for new and existing systems.
  • Diagnosing and resolving PLC-related plant breakdowns to ensure continuous line operation.
  • Designing and modifying software for plant equipment while adhering to onsite software standards.
  • Managing PLC, HMI, SCADA, and Historian software systems, including backups, fault diagnosis, updates, and documentation.
  • Creating and maintaining risk assessments and operating procedures related to maintenance and automation.
  • Collaborating with Production and Maintenance teams to maximize production efficiency and minimize downtime.
The experience you'll bring to the team
  • Significant experience as an Automation Engineer, with skills in fault finding, interrogation, and programming PLC systems such as Siemens S7, Siemens Simatic, Allen Bradley, and Mitsubishi.
  • HNC/HND qualification or equivalent (preferred).
  • Experience with AC/DC inverter programming and maintenance.
  • IOSH certification (advantageous).
  • IT literacy.
  • A clean driving license.
