Job Summary

The Automation Engineer plays a key role in supporting production by maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated manufacturing cells. Working closely with the Automation Lead, this role ensures production targets are met while maintaining safety and quality standards. This role requires working on a shift basis, including potential rotation across day, evening, and night shifts. The Automation Engineer reports directly to the Automation Lead.

Main Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate automation equipment to ensure production targets are met per shift.

• Conduct fault finding and root cause analysis to minimise equipment downtime.

• Support and implement improvements to existing automation systems.

• Perform quality checks to ensure parts meet customer specifications and technical drawings.

• Ensure health and safety is a top priority; escalate any hazards or issues and enforce proper PPE use.

• Maintain 5S standards in the moulding and automation areas.

• Work across designated shifts in line with production needs, including weekends and nights where required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial automation equipment.

• Basic electrical skills, including sensor replacement and simple wiring repairs.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair complex automation systems.

• Solid understanding of health and safety regulations, including electrical safety.

• Recognised apprenticeship and/or qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Desirable:

• Experience with PLC systems such as Siemens and Rockwell.

• Basic toolmaking skills (e.g. precision grinding).

• Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or high-volume production environment.

• Experience with machine vision and camera inspection systems.

• Familiarity with 5S or lean manufacturing practices.
