Job Description:

SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT

Lead Automation Developer

Reference: 2023-7781

Overview

Would you like to work for a large, operational and delivery-focused Directorate at the forefront of key Scottish Government priorities and play a pivotal role in the delivery and management of complex Robotic Process Automation (RPA) & automated solutions? We are looking for a Lead Automation Developer to support automation initiatives across Scottish Government and the wider public sector.

The Automation Team is a new division within the Corporate Transformation Directorate, established to enhance the Scottish Government’s capacity for transformational change. The team manages key projects and programmes to improve efficiency and service delivery.

As Lead Automation Developer, you will collaborate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from identifying automation opportunities to designing, developing, testing, and maintaining automations. You will oversee the development team, manage defects, technical debt, and change requests, and ensure quality assurance and best practices are followed.

This role involves defining working methods, training the team, and promoting standards within the development team. You will also evaluate automation frameworks and develop strategies for integrating automation and new technologies.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical and managerial skills and lead the Scottish Government’s Automation Centre of Excellence team.

This position offers a £5,000 per annum pro-rata DDaT Pay Supplement after a 3-month qualifying period, subject to review.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the team to identify automation opportunities using process optimisation, LEAN, and agile methodologies.
  • Applying strategic thinking to automation, identifying common processes, and guiding decision-making.
  • Overseeing the design, development, testing, and deployment of automation solutions.
  • Managing obstacles, improving system resilience, and defining control mechanisms for issue resolution.
  • Collaborating on long-term development strategies and ensuring quality assurance.
  • Engaging stakeholders and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Setting standards for automation delivery within the Scottish Public Sector.
