Lead Automation Developer - Scottish Government

Overview

Would you like to work for a large, operational and delivery-focused Directorate at the forefront of key Scottish Government priorities? Play a pivotal role in delivering and managing complex Robotic Process Automation (RPA) & automated solutions, supporting automation initiatives across Scottish Government and the wider public sector.

The Automation Team has a vacancy for a Lead Automation Developer to manage agile projects within a portfolio and support team members in developing AI-powered automated solutions.

About the Directorate

Corporate Transformation is a new Directorate aimed at increasing the Scottish Government’s capacity for transformational change across the public sector, managing key projects and programmes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead on collaboration with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from identifying automation opportunities to design, development, testing, and maintenance.
  • Oversee the development team, investigate and resolve defects, manage technical debt and change requests.
  • Ensure quality assurance, adherence to best practices, and scalability of automation processes.
  • Define working methods, train staff, and promote standards within the team.
  • Evaluate automation frameworks and develop contingencies for technology integration.
Qualifications & Skills

Experience in automation development, agile methodologies, stakeholder management, and team leadership. Knowledge of LEAN, AI, and RPA technologies is preferred.

Additional Details

This role attracts a £5,000 per annum pro-rata DDaT Pay Supplement after a 3-month qualifying period. The position is based in Livingston, UK, with an EU work permit required.
