Job summary

Rugby Borough Council is seeking an Automation and Data Engineer to lead the design, build and maintenance of automated workflows and data solutions. You will help modernise the Council's operations, deliver AI-assisted tooling and data-led decision making, and reduce manual workload across departments.

You will bring experience in automation or data engineering within large organisations, plus skills in SQL, scripting, and integrating systems.

Qualifications

• Experience designing automated workflows (e.g. RPA, scripts, integrations).
• Experience in data engineering and ETL processes (SQL, scripting).
• Ability to map business processes and translate into technical requirements; strong stakeholder communication.

About the role

Rugby Borough Council are on an exciting digitalisation journey as we develop, optimise and scale AI assisted tooling and automated workflows to help drive efficiency, cost savings and maximise productivity.

As our Automation and Data Engineer, you will play a key role in making this happen, helping to shape how we modernise the way the Council works.

You’ll design, build and maintain automated workflows and data solutions which reduce manual workload, generate cost avoidance and savings, enable data-led decision making across the Council and deliver AI-assisted tooling and automation use cases

About you

You’ll bring experience automation or data engineering functions within a complex organisation with a track record of delivering measurable transformation.

You’ll have:

• Experience of designing and implementing automated workflows (e.g. RPA, scripts, integrations)
• Experience of data engineering / ETL processes (e.g. SQL, scripting languages, data pipelines)
• Ability to analyse and map business processes and translate them into technical requirements
• Good communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
