Location: Surrey UK (Hybrid – onsite 2 times per week - plus client site)

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Start date: ASAP

Are you passionate about shaping the future of transit and mobility? As an Automated Fare Collection (AFC) specialist you’ll help transit agencies modernize their systems and deliver seamless passenger experiences.

You’ll guide clients through the challenges of adopting next-generation fare collection strategies – from Open Loop and Closed Loop payment systems to account-based ticketing and Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS).

This role is for someone who combines deep technical expertise with outstanding communication skills. You’ll translate complex requirements into clear solutions, explain technical details to non-technical stakeholders, and confidently influence decisions at every level.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead workshops with transit agencies, helping them understand the latest fare collection technologies.

  • Draft clear and practical requirements for new fare collection systems.

  • Review test scripts, ensure edge cases are covered, and analyze results to identify root causes.

  • Oversee onsite testing of AFC payment systems.

  • Run meetings with system integrators, suppliers, and transit staff, keeping projects aligned and on track.

  • Produce detailed technical reports and compelling executive presentations.

  • Anticipate client needs and contribute to forward-looking mobility and payments projects.

What You Bring
  • 5+ years’ experience in fare collection / transit.

  • Practical knowledge of payments, fare collection, or identity technologies.

  • Proven ability to lead large technical projects and engage confidently with both engineers and executives.

  • Strong experience with formal testing processes.

  • A knack for turning data into insights.

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – you know how to explain, persuade, and present with impact.

  • Analytical thinking and a structured problem-solving approach.

What You’ll Get
  • Exposure to cutting-edge transit innovation projects.

  • Collaboration with a team of global experts.

  • Training, mentoring, and clear opportunities for career growth.

  • International travel opportunities

Be the voice that shapes the future of fare collection. Apply today and lead the way in making transit smarter, simpler, and more connected.
