AUTOCAD STRUCTURAL DESIGNER/DETAILER
Greater Birmingham, Alabama area

SUMMARY
The AutoCAD Structural Designer/Detailer is a highly skilled position in the Engineering Department. Initial duties include structural steel detailing via AutoCAD, interpretation of construction plans and survey information, as well as daily problem solving. Engineering acuity and an understanding of basic design principles is helpful. This is a challenging position which requires a high degree of personal discipline and technical expertise.

REPORTS TO: Project Design Engineers

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 1-year degree in drafting required, or three years of drafting experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

1. Determine information from construction plans.
2. Create structure shop drawings for fabrication and field assembly.
3. Check shop and field erection drawings for accuracy and completeness per project specifications.
4. Coordinate with designers and project engineers daily to ensure drawings meet project requirements.
5. Coordinate with key shop personnel to establish best practices on the shop drawings.
6. Utilize MS Excel daily (understanding of Visual Basic Applications for Macros a plus).
7. Drafting in AutoCAD (2018).
8. Daily use of MS Outlook.

DESIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS INCLUDE:

1. Highly organized and self-motivated, able to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent and competing challenges and projects.
2. Good communication and relationship building skills.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
4. Experience in engineering and materials fabrication environment, particularly in design or detailing, is highly preferable.
