Job summary

Allscreens Nationwide Ltd in Swindon is hiring an Auto Electrician to install aftermarket equipment into cars and commercial vehicles, mainly safety systems such as cameras and sensors. You will diagnose faults and service heating and air conditioning, reporting to the Service Supervisor.

To qualify, you should know vehicle electrical systems, have City & Guilds or IMI/NVQ, or 5+ years experience, and have experience installing aftermarket equipment, ideally for emergency service vehicles.

Job description

  • - Salary: Between £34,500-£42,854 per annum pending experience plus bonuses providing a £40-50,000 annual earning potential.
  • - Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm Monday to Friday.
  • - Benefits: Holiday allowance increasing over length of service, overtime at 1.5x time or 2x time, company phone, and sick pay.

Due to business expansion, our client, the largest auto electrical product/service provider in the South of England, is looking to recruit an Auto Electrician for their Swindon depot.

Reporting to the Service Supervisor, as an Auto Electrician, your key responsibilities will include the installation of aftermarket equipment into cars and commercial vehicles - usually safety products such as cameras, proximity sensors, lighting, power management and related equipment. You will also diagnose and repair electrical faults on vehicles and service/repair auxiliary heating and air conditioning. Secondary duties include interacting with our clients' customers, liaising with the Service Department, and general administration such as recording of time, parts and labour.

To be eligible, you must have good knowledge of vehicle/marine electrical systems and be able to diagnose basic and complex faults using various diagnostic equipment. You will either have qualifications in auto/marine electrics (City & Guilds or an IMI/NVQ) or over 5 years of practical experience working on auto/marine electrics. You will also need to have some experience in installing aftermarket equipment into vehicles, ideally emergency service vehicles.

An ideal Auto Electrician would be familiar with the following areas of the emergency services:
  • - Control Unit, such as the Standby/Carnation MCS/Genasys control units.
  • - ANPR systems such as Cleartone.
  • - Screen integration knowledge, such as Standby.
  • - CAN-bus integration systems such as CANM8.
  • - Secure radio systems such as Sepura and Motorola.

  • - Performance-related bonus scheme providing a £40-50,000+ annual earning potential.
  • - Bonus structure is as follows: An Additional 10% of salary for attendance, another 10% for hitting 90% efficiency (All staff hit this), and another 10% for 100% efficiency (80-90% of technicians achieve this).
  • - Overtime subject to availability, paid at an enhanced rate of 1.5x time or 2x time.
  • - 20 days annual leave plus the 8 bank holidays, with your holiday allowance increasing over the length of service.
  • - Additional benefits include a company phone and sick pay after the qualifying period.
  • - Chance to work with the largest auto electrical product/service provider in the South of England, operating for over 40 years.
  • - 40-hour week from 8:30am-5:00pm Monday to Friday, with overtime frequently available but completely optional.
