Job summary

Paneltex is seeking an Auto Electrical Operative to install, test and commission electrical systems in vehicle cabs, chassis and cold storage units. You will work from engineering packs and schematics, ensuring high quality and safety standards are met.

The role covers installation of CCTV, tracking, data logging, reversing cameras and tail lift systems, with hands-on training provided for the right candidate. 40 hours per week with standard working hours in Hull.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of electrical principles and electrical diagrams.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent timekeeping and attendance.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Team-focused with a positive work ethic.
  • Flexible to work extra hours when required.

Responsibilities

  • Install and route electrical cables using proper methods.
  • Remove and refit vehicle components to complete installations.
  • Connect and install lighting systems and CCTV, data logging and tail lift equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Test and commission completed installations to ensure compliance with specs.
  • Maintain QA documentation and a clean, safe workspace.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet production targets and quality standards.

Position

Job Title: Auto Electrical Operative – Various Departments
Location: Paneltex Ltd, Somerden Road, Hull, HU9 5PE
Reporting to: Manager / Supervisor / Team Leader
Hours: 40 hours per week
Working Hours: Monday–Thursday, 08:00–17:00; Friday, 08:00–14:00
Salary: From £13.00 per hour

Job Overview

As an Auto Electrical Operative, you will be responsible for installing, connecting, testing and commissioning a range of electrical components and systems within vehicle cabs, commercial vehicle bodies and cold storage units.

The role will include the installation of systems such as reversing cameras, CCTV, data logging, tail lift and vehicle tracking systems. You will work from engineering packs, including A3 schematic drawings and functionality lists, and will be responsible for integrating vehicle body components with the vehicle cab wiring system.

You will also carry out testing and commissioning to ensure completed vehicles meet the required quality, safety and functionality standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install and route electrical cables using the correct installation and securing methods.
  • Remove and refit vehicle components, including dashboards, carpets and associated trim, as required to complete installations.
  • Connect and install vehicle lighting systems, ensuring all components are securely fitted and meet the required standards.
  • Read, understand and accurately interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings and functionality lists.
  • Install and connect a range of electrical and vehicle systems, including CCTV, reversing systems, tracking, data logging and tail lift equipment.
  • Use a range of hand tools and portable power tools safely and effectively.
  • Refit vehicle components and trim in accordance with company Quality Assurance (QA) standards.
  • Test and commission completed installations to ensure they function correctly and meet required specifications.
  • Complete and maintain accurate, clear and legible documentation in accordance with QA requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment, helping to protect equipment and ensure workplace safety.
  • Follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures and understand your responsibilities in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Comply with all relevant company rules, policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments to ensure production targets and quality standards are achieved.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A basic understanding of electrical principles and electrical diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to listen carefully, follow instructions and work to defined procedures.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive, team-focused approach.
  • Excellent timekeeping and attendance.
  • Flexible approach to working additional hours when required.
  • Previous experience of vehicle electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle electrics and associated systems.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics or engineering drawings.
