Job summary

Protocol Education is recruiting a full-time Autism Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Wallsend. You will support pupils with ASC and additional needs, helping them access lessons and develop communication and independence.

The role offers ongoing training, a supportive local consultant and long-term opportunities. Successful candidates will be patient, adaptable and committed to inclusive education, working closely with teachers and specialist staff to create a calm,

Qualifications

• Patience and compassion in working with learners with ASC and additional needs.
• Ability to adapt approaches to different learners and routines.
• Strong communication skills for working with teachers, staff and families.
• Commitment to inclusive education and creating a supportive classroom environment.
• Experience in SEND, education, care, youth work or support roles is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support.
• Helping pupils access lessons through clear and structured guidance.
• Supporting communication, social interaction and independence.
• Using consistent strategies to support emotional regulation.
• Adapting activities and resources to meet individual needs.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with learners.
• Supporting pupils during transitions and changes to routine.
• Working closely with teachers and specialist professionals.
• Recognising and celebrating progress, however small.
