Autism Support Worker
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: January 2026

GSL Education is looking for a full-time Autism Support Worker to join a specialist secondary setting in York from January 2026. This is a highly rewarding role supporting young people with Autism who require structure, consistency, and personalised support to thrive.

About the Setting

You will be joining a large, well-established specialist provision that supports students with complex needs, including Autism, SEMH, and communication differences. The environment is calm, nurturing, and highly structured, with a strong focus on emotional regulation, relationship‑building, and personalised learning. Staff work collaboratively to provide a safe and positive space where every young person can succeed in their own way.

The Role as an Autism Support Worker
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for autistic students
  • Assist with communication, sensory regulation, emotional wellbeing, and daily routines
  • Use structured strategies, visual supports, and consistent approaches
  • Support students in accessing learning and developing independence
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN practitioners, and pastoral teams
As the Ideal Autism Support Worker, you should
  • Have experience with Autism, SEN, SEMH, youth work, or care (or a strong interest in training)
  • Be calm, patient, and have an empathetic approach
  • The ability to follow structured plans and maintain consistency

Graduates in Psychology, Education, Youth Work, Health & Social Care, Counselling, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
