Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting an Autism Support Worker for a Primary School SEND Unit in Durham, starting immediately on a term-time basis.

You will work with pupils with autism and other needs, supporting one-to-one and small groups, assisting with personal care, and helping the class teacher adapt activities. The role offers flexible term-time hours and includes ongoing CPD via Milk Education.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience supporting children or adults with learning disabilities.

Responsibilities

Autism Support Worker

Milk Education is more than a supply partner — we’re a community for educators. We’re currently recruiting for an Autism Support Worker to join a Pimary School SEND Unit in Durham, starting immediately on a term-time basis.

This setting supports primary aged children with learning needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and physical or sensory impairments. The school is committed to inclusion, communication, and removing barriers to learning through tailored support and strong collaboration with families and external professionals.

You’ll be joining a caring and inclusive environment where every pupil is supported to build confidence, independence, and reach their full potential. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a meaningful impact in a specialist setting.

Autism Support Worker Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils one-to-one and in small groups, tailored to their individual needs
  • Assisting with personal care, including feeding, hygiene, and wellbeing support
  • Working alongside the class teacher to adapt lesson activities and resources
  • Promoting engagement and positive learning outcomes
  • Supporting behaviour management in line with school strategies
  • Building positive, trusting relationships to encourage communication and independence

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
