Job summary

Autism East Midlands invites applications from qualified Teaching Assistants to support teachers in delivering high-quality education tailored to individual pupil needs. The role requires a flexible, person-centred approach and the ability to provide intimate care when needed.

Term-time only opportunities exist in Full-Time, Part-Time and Casual capacities, with extensive induction and ongoing CPD. You will work closely with pupils to enable access to learning using autism-specific strategies

Responsibilities

  • Co-operate with Headteacher and staff to provide a caring, happy, safe and secure environment for pupils.
  • Foster good relationships with staff, parents and professionals.
  • Promote public awareness and support for Autism East Midlands objectives.
  • Plan and implement programmes of work for pupils with specific responsibility.
  • Support pupils to access learning using autism-specific, individualized approaches (1:1 and group).
  • Attend and contribute to meetings including safeguarding training and mandatory training.
  • Support pupils in community settings including college links.
  • Liaise with families and external agencies professionally and confidentially.
  • Contribute to pupil records and reports with staff.
  • Maintain links with parents through diaries, meetings and home visits.
  • Encourage self-advocacy and respect for dignity.
  • Work within equal opportunity guidelines and respect diversity.
  • Safeguard pupils and adhere to safety policies.
  • Manage pupil behaviour per intervention guidelines.
  • Highlight significant developments or behavioural difficulties to staff.
  • Assist with supervision during breaks and mealtimes and toilet training.
  • Maintain a good quality environment and display work.
  • Promote high standards of hygiene and welfare for pupils.
