Job summary

Barrie Bookkeeping & Payroll Solutions Ltd in Ellesmere Port is seeking a friendly Personal Care Assistant to support a non-verbal autistic young person at home and in the community. You will provide one-to-one safeguarding, assist with PECS communication, mobility and personal care, while helping him engage in outdoor activities.

The role requires a driver with own vehicle, a 4-hour weekend schedule, and a DBS check and employment references.

Qualifications

• Experience with PECS or alternative communication methods.
• Experience supporting individuals with autism.
• Experience with mobility and wheelchair support.
• Ability to provide personal care with dignity and privacy.
• Ability to follow established routines and guidance from family.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support in the local community, keeping the young person safe.
• Encourage participation in outdoor and sensory activities aligned with interests.
• Supervise in the community, monitor surroundings and prevent unsafe items in mouth.
• Assist with personal care and mealtimes as required.
• Support PECS communication and respond to the young person’s needs.
• Maintain routines to manage anxiety and promote independence.
• Provide mobility support and assist when using a wheelchair.
• Plan outings that suit needs and preferences, choosing quieter environments.
• Build a respectful, patient relationship and follow family guidance.
