Job summary

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Personal Assistant, Support Worker, Care Assistant, or in a similar role.
• Experience supporting children with autism, learning disabilities, sensory needs, or anxiety.
• Knowledge of autism-friendly support strategies and sensory regulation techniques.
• Experience using visual communication tools such as Now and Next boards or Talking Tiles.
• Understanding of non-verbal communication methods.
• Relevant care, health and social care, childcare, or support work qualifications.
• Training in safeguarding and, where possible, manual handling or first aid.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support to a young child with autism and a learning disability in the family home and local community.
• Engage in play and sensory-based activities matching the child’s interests to promote development.
• Prepare simple snacks, drinks, and meals as required.
• Support with personal care, including dressing, washing, and hygiene.
• Accompany the child on local outings and community activities.
• Assist with mobility needs and safe travel.
• Ensure safety and wellbeing at all times, both at home and in the community.
• Support communication, emotional regulation, and sensory needs using a patient, person-centred approach.
• Collaborate with parents to maintain routines and consistency.
• Encourage independence and participation in meaningful activities.
