Job Advertisement: 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (ASD) – Secondary School in BarnetPosition: 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (ASD)Location: Barnet, LondonHours: Full-time, Monday to FridaySalary: Competitive, based on experience We are looking for a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive secondary school in Barnet. You will be working closely with a student with Autism who is non-verbal and exhibits challenging behaviour. This role requires someone calm, resilient, and empathetic, with a strong understanding of ASD and experience supporting students with complex needs, including the use of sensory regulation strategies. Key Responsibilities:Provide consistent 1:1 support for a secondary-aged student with ASD, helping them access the curriculum and manage transitions throughout the school day. Support the student in regulating behaviour and emotional responses using tailored, proactive strategies. Facilitate regular sensory breaks and adapt classroom tasks to meet the student's sensory and communication needs. Use non-verbal communication techniques such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC systems to support learning and build trust. Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external specialists to deliver a personalised support plan. Promote a safe, inclusive and positive environment that supports the student’s development and wellbeing. Requirements:Experience working with young people with ASD and challenging behaviour, preferably in a secondary school or similar setting. Knowledge of sensory processing needs and appropriate interventions. Familiarity with alternative communication methods (PECS, Makaton, AAC). Strong behaviour management skills with a calm and flexible approach. A team player who can work under direction and independently when required.
