Job Summary:
Eta Projects Ltd. provides Authorising Services to a range of clients across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Founded in 1995 primarily as an M&E Design Consultancy, Eta Projects Ltd has developed its Authorising Services ergonomically as the company has grown. It now offers M&E Authorising Engineering services to a wide range of clients within the NHS and other industry sectors.
The purpose of the role is to monitor and audit SSoW, predominantly within healthcare environments, reporting on compliance with statutory and company procedures. The role involves:
- Providing timely and accurate input to incident investigations and resolving technical operational issues.
- Auditing, processing, and reporting on the findings of technical compliance audits; assisting with the closure of non-conformances.
- Managing and offering guidance on Electrical Equipment Safety Alerts.
- Issuing audit findings via technical audit reports to the Designated Person/Principal Engineer and agreeing on suitable site Action Plans.
- Maintaining a register of all Authorised Persons, including their training records and responsibilities.
- Acting as Technical Lead, offering advice and guidance on complex electrical projects and systems.
The role will be remote-based from home but will require travel to client sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertaking technical compliance audits and reporting non-compliance areas.
- Identifying, developing, assessing, and recommending candidates for appointment as Authorised Persons.
- Assessing the experience, training, and competence of Authorised Persons, providing recommendations for appointment.
- Providing technical and engineering support to ensure all Authorised Persons are competent, ensuring compliance and succession planning.
- Implementing, administering, auditing, and monitoring safe systems of work related to statutory electrical regulations.
- Ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), HTM 06-02, and HTM 06-03.
- Undertaking investigations regarding near misses and accidents, consulting with enforcing authorities as required, in the role of an Authorising Engineer.
- Serving as the focal point to senior management within the business and external client teams regarding the Safe System of Work.
- Providing assurances that the SSoW is appropriately implemented at site level through AE audits and assessment of competence of the Authorised Persons.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of HTM 06/02, HTM 06/03, and/or JSP 375 Vol 3.
- A degree, HND, HNC, or similar qualification in a technical or engineering field.
- Full UK driving license is essential.
- Completion of an approved Authorised Person training course in the last three years (desirable).
- Completion of an approved Authorising Engineer training course within six months of first nomination (desirable).
Skills:
- Demonstrate a good understanding of UK Health and Safety legislation and the ability to carry out risk assessments and propose risk control actions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging at the highest levels.
- Knowledge of healthcare support systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Deep understanding of HTM 06/02, HTM 06/03, and/or JSP 375 Vol 3.
Experience:
- Chartered or Incorporated engineer with practical, relevant experience within NHS and/or MOD systems.
- Recent experience as an Authorised Engineer or extensive experience as a Senior Authorised Person.
- Technical background in high and low voltage systems.
- Experience working within structured safe systems of work.
