Job description

Ideas | People | Trust

We’re BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organizations need to navigate today’s changing world.

We work with Britain’s economic engine—ambitious, entrepreneurially spirited, high-growth businesses—and advise their owners and management teams directly.

We’ll broaden your horizons

Audit quality is central to our strategy as an Audit Stream, vital to our success. High audit quality attracts, develops, and retains talented people, and enables us to compete and demonstrate leadership in market reform.

Achieving high audit quality requires a mindset of challenge and professional scepticism, adequate resources, investment in support teams, and technology. Recently, we increased our headcount, invested in new partners, and launched a significant investment in our quality support team.

We’ll help you succeed

Our work is underpinned by quality—delivering trusted, transparent audits relied upon by companies and stakeholders.

You’ll be proactive, manage your tasks confidently, collaborate effectively, and communicate regularly with senior staff and partners, helping deliver accurate reporting and long-term value.

This opportunity in the Tools Team within the Audit Quality Department (AQD) offers an exciting chance to shape your role and grow with the team. You will report to the Tools Team Manager and work closely with other managers and senior managers.

The Tools Team Executive role involves working with audit tools, supporting their development, testing, and maintenance. It offers involvement with both established and new tools, collaboration across teams, and potential travel to other UK offices.

This role will help develop your skills in time management, attention to detail, and communication, while liaising with colleagues at all levels.

Principal responsibilities include:

  1. Providing support on tool-related queries via phone, email, and in person.
  2. Testing new versions of audit tools, including the bespoke audit tool (APT).
  3. Developing and maintaining content for APT using a library mechanism.
  4. Participating in projects for developing new audit tools.
  5. Writing and updating guidance on tool-related matters.
  6. Liaising with IT regarding audit tools.
  7. Building relationships within the audit stream.
  8. Undertaking training and development as required.
  9. Participating in group, stream, and firm activities.

Requirements:

Qualifications and technical knowledge:

  • University degree

Skills:

  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in a fast-paced, organized environment
  • Knowledge of basic accounting (advantageous)
  • Previous similar role experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Team player, confident in sharing ideas and speaking up in meetings
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Accountability for own work
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

We value individuality, support agile working, and aim to help you achieve your career goals through structured development programs.

We’re in it together

Mutual support and respect are core to our culture. We offer mentoring, coaching, and a collaborative environment with modern spaces and learning opportunities. You’ll be encouraged to build networks, share skills, and grow professionally.

We’re looking forward to the future

Our success depends on our people. We are committed to investing in your growth as we continue to support entrepreneurial businesses and contribute to the UK economy. We adapt and evolve, building on our strengths with openness and clarity to empower creative thinking and innovation.
