Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment LTD invites applications from experienced Audit Manager professionals for a Liverpool-based role. You will oversee audit engagements from planning to completion, acting as the primary client contact across a diverse portfolio including SME and not-for-profit clients.

You will line-manage a small team, review work to UK standards, and contribute to business development and pitches. A clear progression path to RI status is on offer within a collaborative firm.

Qualifications

• ACA or ACCA qualification with UK practice experience.
• Experience operating at Audit Manager level in UK practice.
• Strong knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards.
• Background in general practice with experience managing multiple audits.
• Experience supervising and developing junior team members.
• Not-for-profit or SME audit exposure desirable.
• SRA Accounts Rules reviews would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver audit assignments from planning through to completion.
• Act as main point of contact for a varied client portfolio (SME/not-for-profit)
• Line manage and develop a team of 3–4 staff.
• Review audit work and ensure compliance with UK standards.
• Support pitches, tender processes and business development efforts.
• Identify opportunities within existing client relationships and build commercial visibility.
• Support audit quality control and contribute to the firm’s growth strategy.
• Collaborate with senior leadership with a view to RI role in the short term.

Our client is a well-established and growing independent accountancy practice based in Liverpool, operating across the North West. The firm has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality audit, accounting, and advisory services to a broad client base, with particular expertise in SME/owner-managed businesses and the not-for-profit sector. With a collaborative culture and clear succession planning in place, this is a key strategic hire aimed at strengthening and developing the firm's audit function.

Role Overview - Audit Manager

The successful candidate will play a central role in managing audit engagements, developing client relationships, and contributing to the growth of the audit department.

• Managing and delivering audit assignments from planning through to completion
• Acting as the main point of contact for a varied client portfolio, including SME/owner-managed businesses, not-for-profit organisations, and professional practices
• Line managing and developing a team of 3-4 staff members
• Reviewing audit work and ensuring compliance with UK auditing standards
• Taking an active role in business development, including:
• Supporting pitches and tender processes
• Identifying opportunities within existing client relationships
• Building commercial awareness and visibility within the firm
• Assisting with ad hoc projects including due diligence assignments and complex accounting issues
• Supporting the firm's audit quality control processes
• Working closely with senior leadership with the aim of stepping into an RI role in the short term

Role Requirements - Audit Manager

• ACA or ACCA qualified
• Proven experience operating at Audit Manager level within a UK practice
• Strong knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standardsBackground in general practice with experience managing multiple audits concurrently
• Experience supervising and developing junior team members
• Exposure to not-for-profit or SME audit work is highly desirable
• Experience with SRA Accounts Rules reviews would be an advantage, but not essential

Salary & Benefits - Audit Manager

Salary: £50,000- £60,000 (depending on experience)

Working hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm (office-based role in Liverpool)
