Job description

Ideas | People | Trust

We're BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organizations need to navigate today's changing world.

We work with Britain's economic engine—ambitious, entrepreneurially spirited, high-growth businesses—and directly advise their owners and management teams.

We'll broaden your horizons

Learning and Development (L&D) is a key enabler of our strategy as an Audit Stream and is critical to our success. It supports our ability to attract, develop, and retain talented people who take pride in their work and deliver successfully for our business. Effective L&D underpins quality and productivity by helping our people develop the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their roles and reach their potential.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Manager / Senior Manager or equivalent to join our Learning Development team. The role suits a talented, high-performing, ambitious individual eager to support current curriculum delivery and shape future L&D strategies during a growth phase. This role reports to the Development and Monitoring Lead (DAM).

The Learning Development team (LD) consists of learning designers responsible for designing, curating, or creating content for the Audit programme. The goal is to develop impactful, innovative solutions that meet learner needs and deliver clear business outcomes. The team includes technical and non-technical specialists responsible for authoring activities.

Lead authors collaborate with the Business Partnering team (BP) and Audit Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand business objectives, define learning objectives, and design effective learning interventions using methodologies, innovation, and insights. They also support the Learning Implementation team (LI) with project management and facilitation as needed.

The successful candidate will lead a portfolio of programmes, review content created by team members, coach and develop junior staff, and support initiatives like the Learning Library and Learning Culture programmes.

This role is UK-based with travel to London and other offices, including some residential courses.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Developing impactful, innovative content that meets learner needs and business outcomes.
  2. Reviewing team-produced content to ensure quality, effectiveness, and consistency.
  3. Building and maintaining relationships with content SMEs.
  4. Supporting programme delivery through project management and facilitation.
  5. Designing, curating, or creating technical and non-technical content.
  6. Supporting the wider L&D team with development, delivery, evaluation, coaching, and strategic initiatives.
  7. Training facilitators and hosts to deliver content effectively.
  8. Leveraging audit experience and understanding of accounting and auditing to develop relevant learning.
  9. Mentoring junior team members and building L&D expertise across teams.
  10. Collaborating with BP and LI teams to translate learning needs into content and solutions.
  11. Working with the Innovation and Technology team to incorporate innovative learning design and technology.

Required skills and experience:

  1. Senior-level experience in programme development, including non-technical and audit-technical content, ideally with regulatory reporting experience.
  2. Practical audit experience and understanding of financial reporting, ethics, and conduct.
  3. Formal L&D qualifications are advantageous but not essential if experience is proven.
  4. Knowledge of design thinking, innovation, tools, technology, and data analytics.
  5. Strong stakeholder management, influencing, problem-solving, and activity-driving skills.
  6. Teamwork, coaching, development, and independent working capabilities.
  7. Experience with behavioural change or cultural programmes and strategic alignment.
  8. Passion for developing self and others through high-quality learning interventions.
  9. Ability to translate learning needs into objectives and coordinate responses.
  10. Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
