Job description

Audit Learning & Development - Learning & Development Experienced Manager / Senior Manager

Ideas | People | Trust

We're BDO. An accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today's changing world.

We work with the companies that are Britain's economic engine - ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited and high‑growth businesses that fuel the economy - and directly advise the owners and management teams leading them.

We'll broaden your horizons

Learning and Development (L&D) is a key enabler of our strategy as an Audit Stream and critical to our success. It supports our ability to attract, develop and retain talented people who take pride in their work and successfully deliver for our business. Effective L&D underpins quality and productivity by supporting our people to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their work, helping them reach their personal and professional potential.

Effective L&D requires specialist resources who partner with the Audit Stream to identify training needs and respond appropriately. It involves careful planning, project management, a critical-thinking and commercial mindset, and an understanding of regulatory requirements. Incorporating the latest innovations, tools, and technology is essential to develop tailored, relevant, and timely personal and professional development for our people.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Manager / Senior Manager or equivalent to join our Learning Development team. The role suits a talented, high-performing, and ambitious individual eager to support current curriculum delivery and shape future L&D strategy during our growth phase. This role reports to the Development and Monitoring Lead (DAM).

The Learning Development team designs, curates, and creates content for the Audit programme, aiming to develop impactful, innovative solutions that meet learner needs and deliver business outcomes. The team includes technical and non-technical specialists responsible for main authoring activities.

Lead authors collaborate with Business Partners and Audit SMEs to understand business objectives, translate them into learning objectives, and design effective learning interventions, utilizing innovative methodologies and insights from the Innovation and Technology team. They support project management and may facilitate programmes.

The successful candidate will lead a portfolio of programmes, support team activities such as content review, coaching, and upskilling, and contribute to initiatives like the Learning Library and Learning Culture programmes.

Applicants should have practical audit experience, a solid understanding of financial reporting, ethics, and professional conduct. Experience in designing and developing technical learning content is essential. Formal design qualifications are beneficial but not mandatory, as equivalent experience will be considered.

This role is UK-based, with travel to London and other offices, including some residential stays for courses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing impactful, innovative content aligned with learner needs and business outcomes
  • Reviewing content created by team members to ensure quality, consistency, and efficacy
  • Building and maintaining relationships with content SMEs
  • Supporting programme delivery through project management and facilitation
  • Designing, curating, or creating technical and non-technical content
  • Supporting team development, coaching, and evaluation activities
  • Training facilitators and hosts to deliver content effectively
  • Leveraging audit experience to develop relevant learning
  • Mentoring junior team members and building L&D expertise
  • Collaborating across teams to understand learning needs and develop appropriate content
  • Partnering with the Innovation and Technology team to incorporate innovative learning design
  • Supporting strategic initiatives and advocating for change

Required skills and experience:

  • Experienced Manager / Senior Manager with a background in programme development, including non-technical and audit-technical content, and familiarity with regulatory reporting
  • Formal L&D qualifications are advantageous but not essential; proven experience in content authoring and review is critical
  • Knowledge of the latest design thinking, innovation, tools, and technology
  • Strong relationship-building, influencing, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to coach, develop, and inspire teams and work independently
  • Experience with behavioural change or cultural programmes is beneficial
  • Interest in developing self and others through high-quality learning interventions
  • Ability to translate learning needs into objectives and coordinate responses
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and data skills
  • Understanding of business strategy and focus on quality and outcomes
