Job description

Ideas | People | Trust

We're BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today's changing world.

We work with Britain's economic engine—ambitious, entrepreneurial, high-growth businesses—and directly advise their owners and management teams.

We'll broaden your horizons

Learning and Development (L&D) is a key enabler of our strategy as an Audit Stream and is critical to our success. It helps us attract, develop, and retain talented people who take pride in their work and deliver results. Effective L&D underpins quality and productivity by developing the necessary knowledge and skills, enabling individuals to reach their potential.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Manager / Senior Manager or equivalent to join our Learning Development team. The role suits a talented, high-performing, and ambitious individual eager to support current curriculum delivery and shape future L&D strategy during a growth phase. This role reports to the Development and Monitoring Lead (DAM).

The Learning Development team (LD) comprises learning designers responsible for designing and curating or creating content for the Audit programme. The goal is to develop impactful, innovative solutions that meet learner needs and deliver business outcomes. Team members include technical and non-technical specialists responsible for authoring activities.

Lead authors collaborate with the Business Partnering team (BP) and Audit Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand business objectives, translate them into learning objectives, and design effective learning interventions using methodologies, innovation, and insights. They support the Learning Implementation team (LI) with project management and facilitation where appropriate.

The successful candidate will lead a portfolio of programmes and have wider team responsibilities, including reviewing content, coaching junior members, driving workstreams, and supporting initiatives like the Learning Library and Learning Culture programs.

The role is flexible regarding location within the UK, with travel to London and other offices, including residential stays for certain courses.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Developing impactful, innovative content aligned with learner needs and business outcomes.
  2. Reviewing content produced by team members to ensure quality, objectives alignment, and consistency.
  3. Maintaining business relationships with content SMEs.
  4. Supporting programme delivery through project management and facilitation.
  5. Designing, curating, or creating technical and non-technical content.
  6. Contributing to wider L&D activities, including coaching, development, and strategic initiatives.
  7. Briefing and training facilitators and hosts.
  8. Using audit experience to develop relevant learning materials.
  9. Coaching junior team members and building L&D expertise.
  10. Collaborating with BP and LI teams to translate learning needs into content.
  11. Working with the Innovation and Technology team to leverage technology and design thinking.

Required skills and experience:

  1. Experience as a Manager / Senior Manager with programme development background, preferably including regulatory reporting.
  2. Practical audit experience and understanding of financial reporting, ethics, and conduct.
  3. Formal L&D qualifications are advantageous but not essential if experience in content authoring and review is proven.
  4. Knowledge of design thinking, innovation, tools, and data analytics.
  5. Strong relationship-building skills and stakeholder management.
  6. Teamwork, coaching, and independent working abilities.
  7. Experience with behavioural change or cultural programs is beneficial.
  8. Interest in developing others through high-quality learning interventions.
  9. Ability to translate learning needs into objectives and coordinate responses.
  10. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
