Job description

We're BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organizations need to navigate today's changing world.

We work with Britain's economic engine—ambitious, entrepreneurial, high-growth businesses—and advise their owners and management teams directly.

We'll broaden your horizons

Learning and Development (L&D) is a key enabler of our strategy and critical to our success. It helps us attract, develop, and retain talented people who take pride in their work and deliver for our business. Effective L&D supports quality and productivity by developing the necessary knowledge and skills to perform and reach their potential.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Manager / Senior Manager or equivalent to join our Learning Development team. The role suits a talented, high-performing, ambitious individual eager to support current curriculum delivery and shape future L&D strategy during a growth phase. This role reports to the Development and Monitoring Lead (DAM).

The Learning Development team (LD) comprises learning designers responsible for designing and curating or creating the Audit programme content. The goal is to develop impactful, innovative solutions that meet learner needs and deliver business outcomes. The team includes technical and non-technical specialists responsible for authoring activities.

Lead authors collaborate with the Business Partnering team (BP) and Audit Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand business objectives and translate them into learning objectives, designing interventions that are effective. They support the Learning Implementation team (LI) with project management and facilitate programmes when appropriate.

The successful candidate will lead a portfolio of programmes, review content developed by others, coach and upskill junior team members, drive team workstreams, and support initiatives such as our Learning Library and Learning Culture programmes.

This role can be based anywhere in the UK, with travel to London and other offices, including residential stays for certain courses.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing impactful, innovative content that meets learner needs and business outcomes.
  2. Reviewing content created by team members to ensure quality, objectives, innovation, and consistency.
  3. Building and maintaining relationships with content SMEs.
  4. Supporting programme delivery with project management and facilitation.
  5. Designing, curating, or creating technical and non-technical content.
  6. Supporting wider L&D activities, coaching, and strategic initiatives.
  7. Training facilitators and hosts to deliver content effectively.
  8. Leveraging audit experience and understanding of accounting and auditing to develop relevant learning.
  9. Coaching and mentoring junior team members.
  10. Collaborating with BP and LI teams to translate learning needs into effective content.
  11. Working with the Innovation and Technology team to incorporate innovative design and technology.

Required skills and experience:

  1. Experienced Manager / Senior Manager with a background in programme development, including technical and non-technical content, preferably with regulatory reporting experience.
  2. Practical audit experience and understanding of financial reporting, ethics, and conduct.
  3. Formal L&D qualifications are advantageous but not essential if experience in content authoring and review is proven.
  4. Knowledge of design thinking, innovation, tools, technology, and data analytics.
  5. Strong relationship, influence, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  6. Teamwork, collaboration, coaching, and independent working abilities.
  7. Experience with behavioral change and cultural programs is beneficial.
  8. Ability to translate learning needs into objectives and coordinate responses.
  9. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
