Job description

Ideas | People | Trust

We're BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organizations need to navigate today's changing world.

We work with Britain's economic engine—ambitious, entrepreneurial, high-growth businesses—and directly advise their owners and management teams.

We'll broaden your horizons

Learning and Development (L&D) is a key enabler of our strategy as an Audit Stream and is critical to our success. It helps us attract, develop, and retain talented people who take pride in their work and deliver for our business. Effective L&D underpins quality and productivity by helping our people develop the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their roles and reach their potential.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Manager / Senior Manager or equivalent to join our Learning Development team. The role suits a talented, high-performing, ambitious individual eager to support current curricula and shape future L&D strategies during a growth phase. This role reports to the Development and Monitoring Lead (DAM).

The Learning Development team (LD) consists of learning designers responsible for designing, curating, or creating content for the Audit programme. The goal is to develop impactful, innovative solutions that meet learner needs and deliver business outcomes. The team includes technical and non-technical specialists responsible for main authoring activities.

Lead authors collaborate with the Business Partnering team (BP) and Audit Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand business objectives and translate them into learning objectives and interventions. This includes using learning design methodologies, innovation, and insights to author complex content. They also support the Learning Implementation team (LI) with project management and facilitation where appropriate.

The successful candidate will lead a portfolio of programmes, review content developed by others, coach and upskill junior team members, and support initiatives like our Learning Library and Learning Culture programmes.

This role is UK-based, with travel to London and other offices, including some residential stays for courses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing impactful, innovative content that meets learner needs and business outcomes
  • Reviewing content to maintain quality and consistency
  • Building and maintaining relationships with content SMEs
  • Supporting programme delivery with project management and facilitation
  • Designing, curating, or creating technical and non-technical content
  • Supporting wider L&D activities, coaching, and strategic initiatives
  • Training facilitators and hosts
  • Leveraging audit experience to support learning development
  • Coaching junior team members and building L&D expertise
  • Collaborating with BP and LI teams to meet learning needs
  • Working with the Innovation and Technology team to incorporate new tools and design thinking

Requirements:

  • Experienced Manager / Senior Manager with a background in programme development, including non-technical and audit-technical content, preferably with regulatory reporting experience
  • Practical audit experience and understanding of financial reporting, ethics, and conduct
  • Formal L&D qualifications are advantageous but not essential if experience in content authoring and review is proven
  • Understanding of design thinking, innovation, data analytics, and technology in programme development
  • Strong relationship, influence, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Teamworking, coaching, and independent working abilities
  • Experience with behavioural change/cultural programmes and business strategy implementation is beneficial
  • Interest in developing oneself and others through high-quality learning interventions
  • Ability to translate learning needs into objectives and coordinate responses
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
