Main duties of the job

This is a sessional role for an Audiologist. Responsibilities include conducting hearing assessments for adults of all ages, covering routine audiometric testing, and providing hearing aid assessment, fitting, validation, and ongoing support for adults and families.

Job responsibilities
  • Perform hearing assessments for adults, including history taking and discussions with patients and caregivers as needed.
  • Conduct all routine audiometric tests, such as air and bone conduction audiometry, tympanometry, and acoustic reflex testing.
  • Assess, fit, validate, and support hearing aids for adults and families, using both analogue and DSP devices per departmental protocols.
  • Take aural impressions following British Society of Audiology guidelines.
  • Validate hearing aids with Real Ear Measurement, RECD, and free field testing, acting on insertion gain results.
  • Promote a patient-centered approach throughout services.
  • Coordinate with external agencies like Cochlear implant teams as appropriate.
  • Modify NHS hearing aids and ear moulds as needed.
  • Attend training sessions and update meetings regularly.
  • Assist with maintaining and calibrating technical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and manage stock levels effectively.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Possess a BSc in Audiology, BAAT parts I & II plus Btec Medical Physics & Physiological Measurement, Dip HE in Audiology, or an equivalent qualification. Must be eligible for RCCP registration.
  • Have completed at least one year of undergraduate placement in an Audiology Department or have equivalent NHS audiology experience.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Skilled in communicating complex clinical information to patients, families, and carers.
  • Proficient with computerised patient management systems.
  • Possess good time management, organizational, and written communication skills.
  • Able to develop appropriate clinical management strategies based on case history and test results.
  • Have theoretical knowledge of digital hearing aid fitting.
