Description

Are you passionate about print journalism and digital audience engagement? Do you have a keen eye for compelling content and the ability to help shape stories that captivate readers?

We are looking for an experienced journalist to become our next Audience and Content Editor who will help push our Wiltshire news titles to the next level.

As our Audience & Content Editor, you will play a pivotal role in curating and shaping content for our print publications as well as our digital audience.

Your work will help build on some of the great successes made at leading news brands; the Swindon Advertiser, the Wiltshire Times and the Gazette and Herald.

Primarily, the role will see you work closely with writers, designers, and editorial teams to ensure our print editions meet the highest editorial standards and align with audience interests.

But with a foot in both the print and digital aspects of our work, you will help finesse the content from our reporting team and know how to display it for maximum impact with our audiences.


Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the planning, editing, and layout of print content, ensuring alignment with audience preferences.
  • Analyse readership trends and feedback to refine content strategies.
  • Collaborate with journalists, designers, and editorial staff to produce engaging and visually appealing print editions.
  • Maintain consistency in tone, style, and quality across all print content.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance print circulation and reader engagement.
  • Ensure adherence to editorial guidelines and ethical journalism standards.
  • Manage reporters to improve their news-gathering skills.
  • Oversee our strategy of public engagement, encouraging contributions to the titles.
  • Manage our strategy of monthly supplements.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • A background in local print journalism and editorial management.
  • Excellent editing, proofreading, and content curation skills.
  • A deep understanding of audience engagement strategies for print media.
  • Proficiency in layout planning and collaboration with design teams.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Local knowledge of Wiltshire and/or Swindon preferable.
  • Ability to travel to our Swindon office regularly as this is a hybrid role.
