Job description

Assurance Associate

Reporting to the Assurance Manager

Based on Teesside at the Wilton International site

Position Overview:

The Sembcorp UK Assurance team is a second line function reporting through the CEO Office, performing Risk & Control Assurance to improve the risk profile. Working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, the function is expected to give Senior Management comfort that the control environment is operating as designed, whilst also highlighting any weaknesses and opportunities for improvement, making operationally and commercially pragmatic recommendations for the business to take forward.

This role is to be based at Sembcorp UK's headquarters at the Wilton International site on Teesside, providing assurance over both the operational aspects of Sembcorp's energy generation and battery storage portfolio, and business enablement functions such as Finance, Procurement, Commercial, Business Development, Human Resources etc. The role does require an element of travel, visiting the sites throughout the UK to liaise with operational staff, and perform on-site activities.

There is also the expectation to demonstrate the appropriate behaviours and commitment towards health and safety to ensure we maintain our first-class safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver a program of work to provide assurance that Sembcorp UK has effective and efficient processes in place to mitigate all key business risks.
  2. Develop the Assurance Framework to ensure that assurance activity considers stakeholder feedback, industry best practice, and Group requirements.
  3. Testing of control activities, to provide assurance that they are designed appropriately, and operating effectively.
  4. Ensure that statutory regulatory and legislative requirements referenced through Sembcorp UK procedures are incorporated and implemented.
  5. Develop Assurance related policies and procedures.
  6. Perform data analysis to identify opportunities for improvement, and areas of risk.
  7. Produce risk-based reports, communicating assurance findings to top management along with recommendations for remediation.
  8. Collaborate with other assurance providers, both internal and external.
  9. Track and validate both completion and effectiveness of action taken.
  10. Identify and routinely report on key metrics to demonstrate the positive impact of the assurance function.

Skills & Experience:
  1. 3 communicate with all levels of the business and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
  2. Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and maintain a level of professional scepticism.
  3. Good analytical and critical thinking skills are required to identify irregularities, internal control gaps and areas for improvements.
  4. Right to work in the UK is essential.
  5. A full UK driving licence is required.

Desirable:
  1. Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in STEM subjects is preferred, however other relevant qualifications, such as finance or other business administration subjects, will be considered.
  2. Minimum 5 years (desirable) working experience in Assurance, Internal Audit, Risk and Controls, Corporate Governance, or Investigation role.
  3. Formal auditing or risk qualifications (CIA, CRP, CFE) are preferred, however ISO Lead Auditor qualifications will be considered.
