Job description

Opportunity for a Principal or Associate Water Environment Consultant to take up a leadership position within our growing Water Environment team, based out of Bristol, BS1 4UA or Cheltenham, GL50 3QQ.

As an Associate within our Water Environment team, you will manage/deliver hydraulic modelling to support nature-based solutions, Flood Risk Assessment, and drainage design. Current projects cover a wide range of works, including land promotion, inner city regeneration, climate change resilience, residential development, supporting local authorities in utilizing natural flood management techniques to alleviate flood risk, and wider planning support.

A key part of the role is collaboration with other disciplines within Rappor to deliver integrated designs that maximize potential for clients.

You will work closely with the national discipline Director, with opportunities for career progression, especially as we continue to realize our growth plans over the coming months and years.

Your role
  • High-quality project delivery, including Flood Risk Assessments, Flood Evacuation Management Plans, Environment Impact Assessment Chapters, Drainage Strategies, and Technical Notes to support planning applications.
  • Contributing to the quality of team and company-wide outputs.
  • Performing quality assurance checks of technical work for junior colleagues.
  • Assisting with the day-to-day leadership and management of a team of consultants.
  • Identifying opportunities for growth within new sectors and project locations.
  • Engaging stakeholders, external project team members, and clients.
  • Generating regular project enquiries and opportunities for high-quality project work, ensuring stimulating work for the team and desired profitability.
  • Undertaking site visits.
The Experience And Profile We Are Seeking
  • Currently or recently operating as an experienced Senior/Principal or Associate level Water Environment Consultant in the UK.
  • Collaborative approach, with good people skills and effective communication with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Commercial awareness to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Knowledge of UK hydrological methodologies and flood risk management policy.
  • Working knowledge of relevant software tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-2D, Flood Modeller-TUFLOW, Infoworks-ICM, ArcGIS, AutoCAD.
  • Experience in bidding for work and developing new client propositions.
  • Ability to mentor, encourage, and support junior team members.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent; Chartered status with ICE or CIWEM is desirable.
