Job summary

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is seeking an Associate for the US Funds Tax team in London. You will work on US tax compliance, reporting, and fund structuring for European-based clients in Asset Management, including Private Equity and Real Estate.

The Team

Alvarez and Marsal Tax’s U.S. Funds team is an exciting and unique opportunity. The team provides a broad range of U.S. tax compliance and reporting, as well as fund structuring and ad-hoc advisory services to European-based clients across many sectors in the Asset Management industry, such as Private Equity and Real Estate. The team is well placed to provide U.S. tax services, with a focus on international tax issues, to asset managers that have U.S. cross-border activity. A&M is seeking ambitious and enthusiastic top-performing individuals to join the growing business and team.

You’ll join a supportive and collaborative team, working on a broad range of projects for exciting clients. You’ll work closely with talented colleagues across the business, with plenty of opportunities to develop your technical tax knowledge and gain hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

• Work across a variety of engagements and a diverse client base, with guidance from Managers and Assistant Directors;
• Develop a strong understanding of A&M’s tax technology and use it to review and deliver clear, well-organized workpapers, including book-to-tax adjustments and investor allocations;
• Review tax extensions, Schedules K-1 and K-3, federal and state tax returns, and tax estimates;
• Review PFIC testing and analysis, including related reporting for Schedules K-1 and K-3;
• Research U.S. and international tax matters, including the interpretation of U.S. tax treaties, and clearly communicating and documenting your findings;
• Liaise with tax authorities, including the IRS, where required; and
• Take ownership of assigned workstreams, ensuring work is accurate, well organized and delivered within agreed timelines.

Qualifications

• CPA or EA qualified
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Strong understanding of Excel and ability to learn new tax software as well as technology processes.
• Demonstrate an understanding of basic U.S. accounting concepts
• Ability to simultaneously work on several projects and effectively manage deadlines in order to meet deliverable timeframes.
• Strong teaming and problem-solving skills.
• High motivation to learn and grow.
• Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills.
