Job summary

FutureGen Recruitment is seeking an Associate Town Planner for a growing Exeter consultancy. You will own planning instructions from residential, strategic land to Local Plan promotion, with client-facing duties and project coordination.

The role requires MRTPI or equivalent, senior/principal consultancy experience, and strong communication skills. Hybrid working, discretionary bonus, private healthcare and a clear path to Associate Director are on offer.

Associate Town Planner

Exeter | £49,000–£63,000 plus bonus

Continued project wins have created an opening for a Associate Town Planner within a growing consultancy in Exeter. The team is busy, well established and keen to add someone who can take genuine ownership of instructions.

The projects

The team is currently advising on residential planning, strategic land, mixed‑use development and Local Plan promotion. Projects range from early feasibility and site appraisal through to applications, negotiation, appeals and delivery advice.

Your part in them

• Prepare clear planning appraisals, statements and strategic advice.
• Manage planning applications and coordinate technical inputs.
• Maintain regular, professional communication with clients and project teams.
• Negotiate constructively with local planning authorities and other stakeholders.
• Review work produced by junior colleagues and support their development.
• Contribute to fee proposals, client development and the commercial management of projects.

About you

Mrtpi; consultancy experience at senior or principal level; commercially aware and technically strong. You should also be organised, dependable and able to explain planning issues in straightforward language. The business is interested in people who value good advice and long‑term client relationships rather than unnecessary internal politics.

Package & Working arrangements

The salary is £49,000–£63,000 plus bonus. The wider package includes hybrid working, discretionary bonus, private healthcare and progression to Associate Director. Exact arrangements will depend on experience and will be discussed openly during the process.
