Job description

Join to apply for the Associate, TMT - Regulatory role at Wiggin.

Our telecommunications and competition team has many years of experience advising telecommunications, media, and technology companies globally on strategic regulatory and commercial matters. We are recruiting an Associate – Communications (Regulatory) to support our growth.

About the role

You will primarily support Partner Gordon Moir, advising on telecoms regulatory and competition law issues, including market reviews, global product launches, SMP assessments, investigations, and strategic policy matters for telecoms operators and technology platforms. You will also engage in commercial arrangements where regulatory considerations are pivotal.

  • Provide advice on telecoms-specific regulations (UK and EU), SMP assessments, net neutrality, licensing, numbering, network security, and compliance.
  • Advise on competition law matters, including market reviews, abuse of dominance, cartel investigations, and merger control.
  • Support clients through regulatory investigations, appeals, and judicial reviews before Ofcom, the CAT, and other authorities.
  • Assist with analysis and strategy related to Ofcom consultations, SMP remedies, pricing disputes, and regulatory decision appeals.
  • Liaise with industry bodies and regulators (e.g., Ofcom, CMA, EU Commission) to develop policy positions and advocate for favorable outcomes.
  • Work alongside the firm’s commercial, technology, and corporate lawyers on relevant transactions and initiatives.
  • Manage client relationships and mentor junior colleagues, contributing to business development and the firm’s profile.

About you

  • Ideally 3+ years of post-qualification experience in telecoms regulation and/or competition law, gained in a law firm, regulator, or in-house environment.
  • Solid understanding of UK and/or EU telecoms regulatory frameworks, with experience in market reviews, investigations, or compliance.
  • Experience in competition law advisory is desirable but not essential if telecoms regulatory knowledge is strong.
  • Familiarity with contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters, including appeals before courts/tribunals, is advantageous.
  • Comfortable handling economic and policy-driven arguments; excellent drafting, communication, project management, and delegation skills.
  • Ability to build strong client relationships and develop new business in regulatory and competition areas.
  • Committed to collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and mentoring junior colleagues.
