Job Description:

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for an Associate Technical Director EIA/SEA Consultant with a broad range of EIA/SEA and/or planning experience. You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a huge variety of projects, lead and coordinate EIA/SEAs and related deliverables, establish strong client relationships, develop new areas of business, and mentor others in the team.

As part of our Environmental team, you'll help improve quality of life. With your specialism in environmental management, or your technical or sustainability expertise, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise. And in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

We work to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we're feeling the effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The rate at which we're seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is becoming more frequent. We are here to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations.

You’ll be instrumental in improving the environmental performance and delivering impact assessments for a diverse range of projects. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of major multidisciplinary projects.

  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental outcomes.
  • Undertaking your own work to an excellent standard, and reviewing the work of others.
  • Working in partnership with other members of the Environmental Planning team across the UK/Internationally.
  • Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors, and quality assurance.
  • Lead and support tender proposals/bids - working as part of a project winning team.
  • Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers, and colleagues.
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring added value for clients.
  • Developing outstanding reports - an ability to summarise and explain outcomes to non-technical audiences will be critical for this.
  • Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Excellent knowledge of EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
  • Experience across a range of project types, energy and rail experience would be welcomed.
  • Proven experience of managing and coordinating EIA screening and scoping activities and Environmental Statements including the technical review of specialist chapters.
  • Practical working knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting process.
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • The ability to work as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable.
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
  • Experience in the delivery of SEA and/or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects would be welcomed.
  • Desired: Knowledge and application experience of sustainability, waste, or carbon assessments would be welcomed.
