The Department:

Tax

The Mayer Brown UK Tax team in London is a team of eight, comprised of four partners, three associates and one trainee.

The team undertakes a broad variety of corporate tax work – cross border and domestic, transactional and advisory.

The team advises clients on a wide range of tax issues including the tax consequences of selling businesses, structures for business acquisitions, private equity, capital markets, corporate reorganisations, debt restructuring, real estate transactions, structured finance, intra-group transfers of businesses, international structures and treaty claims, solvent and insolvent reconstructions, and a wide range of collective investment vehicles including limited partnerships, joint ventures, unit trusts, open-ended investment company, REITS and hybrid funds.

Hours:

9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexibility in accordance with the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

This position involves scope for a lawyer with corporate tax experience to become involved in the work of the Group, which involves considerable standalone tax advice and structuring as well as transactional matters (corporate, finance and real estate).

There is a particular need for a lawyer with broad UK tax experience (some finance tax experience would be advantageous).

A significant proportion of the Group’s work is international in scope with cross border issues.

Qualifications

A qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with 2-6 PQE years' post qualification experience.

The PQE level identified here is indicative only. Mayer Brown would welcome applicants regardless of PQE who believe they meet the requirements of the role outlined in the job description and wish to apply for the position.

Experience, skills and personal attributes:

  • Experience in a leading UK or US firm
  • Broad UK corporate taxation experience
  • Experience in some finance tax would be preferable but is not essential
  • Excellent people skills and a good, clear communication style;
  • Ability to work effectively within an established, close-knit team;
  • Demonstrate ability confidently to interact with clients and develop business pro-actively;
  • A commercial and pragmatic outlook;
  • Have attained degree certificate(s) from a reputable institution, achieving a minimum grade of 2:1 or equivalent;
  • Be self-motivated and possess a pro-active attitude;
  • Candidates that have gained increased post-qualification experience will also be expected to demonstrate ability to manage their caseload with little day to day supervision as well as the supervision/management of junior lawyers.
