Job summary

A specialist engineering consultancy is seeking an Associate Structural Engineer to conduct inspections and design projects. The ideal candidate will have Chartered Engineer status, a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, and strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations. Abbott Holliday Partnership is a specialist structural engineering consultancy, serving domestic and small commercial clients across the South-East for over 45 years. We are seeking contract Associate Structural Engineers to support our growing workload, conducting structural inspections, defect reports, and design projects.

Role Overview

The Associate Structural Engineer will carry out structural inspections, defect investigations, and reporting, with opportunities to be involved in litigation and expert witness work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake design projects, including site visits, calculations, drawings, and submissions to head office

  • Carry out structural defect inspections, prepare detailed reports with findings, conclusions, and recommendations

  • Optional litigation and expert witness work, including CPR-compliant reports and potential court appearances

  • Contribute to the online project diary to keep the wider team informed of commitments

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng or equivalent)

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent qualification)

  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and structural design standards

  • Excellent written and spoken English, with ability to prepare professional reports and drawings

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word (layout and formatting skills)

  • Access to a car with a valid UK driving licence

Desired Experience
  • Experience leading or mentoring staff

  • Familiarity with structural design software and CAD

  • Prior litigation or expert witness work (training can be provided)
