Associate Specialist / Consultant - Psychiatry

Are you a senior psychiatrist (Consultant, Associate Specialist or equivalent) with a passion for mental health?

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, committed to patient-centered mental health care, has excellent communication skills, and is a team player.

As a senior psychiatrist, you will provide expert clinical leadership, support the delivery of high-quality mental health services, and lead diagnosis assessments alongside providing excellent treatment to individuals with mental health conditions.

This role is within our community mental health teams, mental health crisis services, and inpatient wards, in both urban and rural settings across Dorset.

Dorset is a county in southwest England, known for its Jurassic coast, sandy beaches, thriving urban centres like Poole and Bournemouth, and growing universities such as Bournemouth University and Health Sciences University. We have something for everyone!

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
  • General medical qualification (e.g., MBBS) and a Licence to Practice
  • MRCPsych or recognized equivalent (e.g., membership of a psychiatry college in another country)
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
  • Possession or within 6 months of obtaining a CCT in Psychiatry, on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry, or international equivalent
  • Experience outside psychiatry (e.g., general practice, medicine)
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Excellent knowledge in your specialty
  • Effective multidisciplinary team involvement
  • Strong clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social approach and broad medical knowledge
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Decision-making based on evidence and experience, including input from others
  • Teaching experience
  • Wide range of specialist/sub-specialist experience relevant to NHS or equivalent services
Management Skills
  • Understanding of working with managers for good patient care
  • Ability to manage priorities
  • Evidence of management/leadership training
  • Previous management experience, including supervising junior medical staff
Leadership Skills
  • Understanding of leadership principles and demonstrated leadership in practice
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership to multidisciplinary teams
