Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist II to join our Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) group, focusing on support of Cell Culture processes. This position in the Product Development Science and Technology (PDS&T) organization supports biologics manufacturing at the AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. Our group leads process technology transfer, optimization, validation, implementation, and continuous improvement for late-stage and commercial manufacturing of therapeutic proteins. We also provide technical support for manufacturing, GMP compliance, and regulatory filing. We seek an enthusiastic, creative scientist who can work independently and as part of a dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Impact projects primarily through lab-based activities.
  2. Cultivate CHO cells in suspension at various bench-top scales (e.g., deep well plates, shake flasks, bioreactors) in fed-batch and/or perfusion modes.
  3. Prepare cell culture media following recipes.
  4. Execute experiments following established procedures and assist in interpreting results.
  5. Troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation.
  6. Apply statistical tools for experimental design and interpretation.
  7. Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation.
  8. Communicate scientific data and concepts effectively through reports and presentations.
  9. Learn and adapt to new experimental techniques as needed.
  10. Adhere to corporate standards regarding conduct, safety, and GMP compliance.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in biochemical/chemical engineering or related life sciences discipline with typically 3+ years of industrial experience; or M.S. in the same fields.
  • Proven experience working aseptically in cell culture processes.
  • Experience working at bench-top bioreactor scale.
