Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our progressive Respiratory Nurse Specialist Team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to work with the Respiratory Nurse Specialist Team on the Broomfield site.

Our small but friendly team covers a 5-day service (Mon - Fri), providing triaging and support to patients in both the ward and outpatient settings. The role involves caring for patients with respiratory conditions, including the assessment of home oxygen on the wards.

In addition to assessing and supporting respiratory patients on the wards, your role will include working in outpatient clinics reviewing respiratory patients. You will work closely with our consultants and respiratory nurse specialists to develop the service, ensuring a seamless patient journey through this pathway.

If you have the compassion and professionalism to help shape this service and deliver an excellent patient experience, we would like to hear from you. Your responsibilities include providing comprehensive and holistic assessments of patients with asthma, COPD, and other respiratory conditions referred for review as inpatients. Once competent, this will also involve outpatient reviews within nurse-led and consultant clinics.

You will advise staff on appropriate respiratory medications, assess patients for home oxygen, and ensure all patients have the necessary consent and IHORM carried out prior to oxygen installation.

When risks are high, you will organize MDT meetings with all concerned parties and complete risk assessments before oxygen installations to proactively mitigate risks. You will also make necessary referrals to appropriate services.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your management and clinical skills with support from the senior nursing team, who will work alongside you.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services to improve patient health and wellbeing, while providing a vibrant environment for staff to develop, innovate, and build careers.

We aim to maximize our skills and experiences to become the best we can be. As one organization, we will recruit and retain more specialist staff through expanded employment opportunities across our Trust.
