Job title: Associate Research Scientist I - Quality Control

Department / Division: Quality Control / Research & Development

Salary Grade: EXA 13

Salary Range: $57,120 - $70,560

What do we need:

Amway is seeking an Associate I Research Scientist to join our Chemical Quality Control team within the Amway Research & Development division. This team, located at our Ada, Michigan headquarters, provides a broad range of chemistry-related technical services and expertise, supporting Amway’s global Innovation, Manufacturing and Supply Chain functions. This is a Mon-Fri, first shift position.

What’s special about this team:

The QC Chemistry group is a dynamic team of 19 FTEs and 4 contractors, focused on testing and releasing raw materials, in-process samples and finished goods in two high-throughput labs. These labs employ a broad range of instrumentation with methodologies including wet chemistry, HPLC/UPLC, GC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, NIR, FTIR and more. The materials and products tested in the labs support several plants/products across campus ranging from supplements to protein powders to personal care products. This team works under the umbrella of the QC Department, which also includes Microbiology, Incoming Material Inspection and Records Review. This team works cross-functionally with partners in Research & Development, as well as Manufacturing and Supply Chain.

What’s special about this role:

This position is based at our Ada, Spaulding lab location. The role supports the Chemical Quality Control team, providing day-to-day lab support including wet chemistry and chromatography testing, instrument calibration and maintenance, and involvement in process improvement projects. In-lab testing responsibilities support all business lines, consisting of titrations, physical & gravimetric methods, softgel analysis, US-Vis and Chromatography (GC/HPLC/UPLC) for raw materials and finished goods. This role will also help support audits conducted by internal and external functions. As we work closely with and support manufacturing, planning and other quality functions, an open, collaborative mindset is a must. A sciences background with experience in nutrition AND/OR drug quality assurance is a requirement. Required qualifications:

  1. BS degree in chemistry, biology, Life sciences or related field
  2. Minimum 1 - 3 years’ experience in a food/nutrition/drug quality assurance environment
  3. Background in chemistry testing, with a focus on wet chemistry and chromatography methodologies

Skills to be successful in the role:

  1. GMP chemistry laboratory experience preferred
  2. Experience with manufacturing/quality engineering and understanding schedule needs
  3. Background in chromatography troubleshooting
  4. Experience with Empower, Starlims, PLM, SharePoint, JDE, Blue Yonder, and Excel
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  6. Ability to appropriately prioritize workload
  7. Flexible team player, self-motivated, ability to be adaptable and work independently and as part of a team
