Job summary

Springer Nature seeks an Associate Publisher / Publisher to join our Journals team in London with a hybrid working model across London and Milan. You will develop editors, manage editorial boards and drive journal performance, including open access and indexing considerations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, strong publishing interest, excellent communication, and a proven ability to meet deadlines. Travel for conferences and cross-border collaboration may be required.

• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Editors-in-Chief and editorial stakeholders
• Portfolio development and management with Editors-in-Chief to expand and refresh Editorial Boards

About the Role

The Springer Nature Journals group aims to support researchers in communicating and advancing discovery for a better world. Role Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Society contacts, Editorial Board Members and other stakeholders, acting as their key point of contact for publishing matters. This includes organizing and hosting Editorial Board meetings, balances stakeholders.
• Portfolio Development & Management - work with Editors-in-Chief to develop, expand and refresh Editorial Boards, identifying recruitment needs and supporting the appointment of high-quality and diverse Editorial Board members.
• Communicate Effectively - resolving queries and corresponding with Editors by email, phone and in person, ensuring that communications are responded to within a timely fashion and escalated when required.
• Collaboration - build excellent relationships and team working within the immediate team and other departments.
• Decision Quality - with the support of your line manager, prioritize journals for development then set and execute strategic journal plans.
• Market Intelligence - develop knowledge of the fields the portfolio operates within (e.g. to identify important journals/features/hot topics etc.) and use knowledge to actively identify journal development opportunities.
• Drive Results - ensure appropriate representation in indexing services and work to ensure journals are performing at level for acceptance by selective services.
• Monitor the open access levels of your journals and work with your line manager to implement a strategy to support open access development.
• Portfolio Development & Management Monitor peer review data to optimize manuscript flow. Pre-empt issues and work with the Editorial Office as well as internal and external Editors to resolve any delays.
• Data Analytics / Quantitative Skills Be familiar with COPE Guidelines to be able to advise on ethical queries and ensure all journals in your portfolio comply with these.
• Maintain accurate journal records and oversee key journal administration activities, including editor and society contract renewals, honoraria payments, and ensuring all journal information is kept up to date.
• Business Development - represent the company at scientific conferences when required.

Salary & Benefits

• For Milan, Italy positions only: Associate Publisher: Minimum salary €32,500
• Publisher: Minimum salary €41,500
• National Collective Labour Agreement for employees of printing, publishing, digital and related companies (Publishers’ Section) – CNEL Code G011
