Job description

These are exciting times at ARAG Law, as we are experiencing positive business change and sustained growth across our Litigation teams. We now have a Property Litigation Associate opportunity available in our central Bristol office.

About the team:

Our Property Litigation team is part of our larger Complex Litigation division. We are a highly skilled, friendly, and supportive team specializing in high-quality property litigation work from the ARAG Legal Expenses Insurance Group.

About the role:

As a Property Litigation Associate, you will handle a wide range of property litigation matters, including property damage, trespass, and nuisance issues.

You will manage your own caseload, contributing to our culture of effective and efficient case handling to ensure our clients receive the highest standard of service, while complying with regulatory and company procedures and considering cost implications.

This role offers an established pipeline of work and opportunities to enhance your professional profile. You will be part of a team with extensive experience, excellent support, and opportunities for growth and development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing your own caseload of property litigation cases for various clients.
  • Resolving disputes through courts, mediation, or other ADR techniques.
  • Delivering work with a focus on risk management and client service excellence.
  • Meeting annual billing targets and KPIs.
  • Supervising and managing junior team members to help them meet their targets and manage risk.

This is a permanent, hybrid role requiring a minimum of two days per week in our Bristol City Centre office (close to Bristol Temple Meads station). Full-time hours are preferred, but part-time options (minimum 4 days/week or equivalent hours) may be considered based on experience.

The role requires a comprehensive understanding of Civil Procedure Rules and experience litigating cases from inception to trial, including resolving cases via mediation and other ADR methods. Property-specific litigation experience is advantageous but not essential, as training can be provided.

Applicants should possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Confidence, approachability, and a customer-focused attitude are essential. Supervisory experience is beneficial if overseeing solicitors or paralegals.

Additional key requirements include:

  • Experience with procedural matters in litigation, including protocols and civil procedures.
  • High standards of client care and ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.
  • Practical legal experience in county court litigation, injunctive relief, mediation, and ADR.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with property disputes is desirable; knowledge of legal expenses insurance disputes is a plus.
  • Resilience and empathy, given the contentious nature of disputes.

Additional information:

We foster a passionate and independent-thinking team environment. Benefits include flexible working, a competitive salary, and an attractive benefits package such as:

  • 26 days holiday (option to buy up to 5 additional days)
  • Company pension scheme
  • Group income protection and legal protection
  • European motor and home emergency assistance
  • Health cash plan and exclusive retail discounts
  • Access to social events and activities
