Job summary

Gillespie Macandrew Llp is recruiting Associates for our Private Client Team in Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity to handle a diverse client base, gain exposure to high‑quality, complex matters, and develop expertise within a specialist, forward‑thinking team.

The role focuses on wills, executry, tax planning, trusts, and powers of attorney. We welcome candidates with at least 5 years PQE, with openness to part‑time and flexible working, and a track record of independent caseload

• Willingness to work collaboratively on larger or more complex matters.
• Contribute to the financial performance of the team by meeting targets.
• Interest in business development and marketing initiatives is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Advise on all aspects of private client law and related tax issues.
• Draft Wills for a wide range of client needs.
• Assist with executry administration and complex estates.
• Provide tax planning guidance, including Inheritance Tax reliefs.
• Assist with trusts creation and management and asset protection advice.
• Advise on powers of attorney and guardianships.

The Role

Our Private Client work is broad and varied, reflecting the needs of our clients. The successful candidate will advise on all aspects of private client law and related tax issues, with particular emphasis on:

• Drafting Wills for a wide range of client needs
• Executry administration, including advising on complex and tax‑paying estates
• Tax planning, with a strong focus on Inheritance Tax and reliefs such as APR and BPR
• Trust creation and management, including technical trust law and asset protection advice
• Advising private clients on complex and contentious executry and trust matters
• Powers of Attorney and Guardianships

Skills & Experience

You will be someone who is keen to play an active role in the continued growth and success of our Private Client offering. You will:

• Be confident managing your own caseload independently
• Enjoy working collaboratively on larger or more complex matters
• Contribute to the financial performance of the team by meeting agreed targets
• Have experience of, or an interest in, business development and marketing initiatives
