Job description
Overview

The successful candidate will join our small team serving University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, based on the Derby site. We manage the internal quality control and external quality assessment for all of these systems within our quality improvement role and work closely with other clinical services to develop and extend point-of-care clinical services to patients across Derbyshire.

Responsibilities
  • To undertake the processing of clinical specimens before testing.
  • To perform technical scientific investigations covering several disciplines, involving the processing of blood and other body fluids, along with MLAs and Biomedical Scientists.
  • To run and co-ordinate Point of Care clinics involving direct patient care.
  • To run staff training sessions throughout the geographical area covered by Derbyshire Pathology, as required.
  • To assist the Senior Biomedical Scientist in the coordination and the administration of the Point of Care Technologies team, using a range of computer databases.
  • To assist in the management of POCT resources.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Candidates will have to be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, must be self-motivated and organised in order to work as part of a flexible team.
  • Previous experience of working within a point-of-care team and/or providing clinical services directly to patients would be an advantage.
  • The laboratory operates a Monday to Friday service and ensures the provision of point-of-care services for clinical teams are available throughout the year.
  • It is an essential requirement that applicants have demonstrable pathology laboratory experience.
  • We also require the successful applicant to travel to locations within Derbyshire and Staffordshire, so a driving licence is essential.
