Job description

Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Climate Change – London, Berlin or New York

Nature Climate Changeis a multi-disciplinary journal publishing high-quality research related to all aspects of climate change. The journal’s scope includes both the natural and social sciences.

We now have an opening to join our team as an Associate or Senior Editor. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to help shape the physical science content of the journal.

The candidate must have a PhD, and preferably postdoctoral experience, with a strong research record in an area of physical climate science: for example, atmospheric science, hydroclimate, climate dynamics, or oceanography. Editorial experience would be beneficial, but is not required.

Our professional editors make the final decision on what we publish. The successful applicant will play an important role in determining the representation of the physical impacts of climate change, as well as interdisciplinary work touching upon these areas, in the journal. They will work closely with the other editors on the on-going development ofNature Climate Changeand all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing of Comments, Perspectives, Reviews and News & Views, and writing for the journal. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the academic community through institutional visits and international conferences, as well as engaging with stakeholders.

This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills, the ability to absorb new areas of research, and a keen interest in the practice and communication of research are prerequisites. The successful candidate must, therefore, be dynamic and outgoing and have excellent interpersonal skills. The salary and benefits will be competitive, reflecting the critical importance and responsibilities of this position.

The position will ideally be based in our London, Berlin or New York office, but exceptions can be considered for strong candidates.Nature Climate Changeis part of a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includesNature,Nature Ecology & Evolution,Nature Sustainability,Nature Geoscience, andNature Reviews Earth and Environment(launching 2020).

Applicants must provide:

  • a CV (including their class of degree and a brief account of their research and other relevant experience);
  • a Research Highlight (200 words or less) on a recent paper from the climate-change literature;
  • A brief cover letter explaining their interest in the post and their salary expectations;
  • And an outline for a special issue ofNature Climate Change, featuring 3–4 commissioned review or opinion pieces with suggested authors.

Review of applications will begin on 5th November2018.
