This is a full-time editorial position affiliated to one of the Elsevier Offices located in the UK (London, Oxford), Amsterdam, or China (Beijing, Shanghai). Cell Press offers an attractive salary and benefits package and a stimulating working environment. We can hire up to Scientific Editor level for this role and the level offered will be commensurate with the experience of the chosen candidate.

About Our Team

Cell Host and Microbe is a leading microbiology journal within Cell Press, focusing on the integrated study of microbes (pathogenic, non-pathogenic, and commensal) in conjunction and communication with each other and their host(s).

About The Role

We are hiring for an editorial position at Cell Host and Microbe. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in microbiology, host-pathogen interactions, infectious disease, and immunology. However, we will consider candidates with expertise in any area of life sciences. We are open to considering candidates at junior and associate levels. Previous editorial experience is an advantage but is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess research papers.
  • Collaborate with referees.
  • Engage authors and provide excellent service.
  • Commission and edit articles.
  • Develop journal and editorial strategy.
  • Build relationships with colleagues and researchers.
  • Recruit and commission content.
  • Travel to conferences and research institutions.
  • Contribute to growth and innovation projects.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Broad scientific interests and editorial skills.
  • Critical thinking across scientific areas.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a global team.
