Associate Mechanical Engineer - Education Group

RPS is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer for the Education Group at either the Birmingham or Manchester office, with hybrid working.

About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across sectors such as residential, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, manufacturing, data centres, energy, and more. We focus on balancing form and function, sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation is central to our delivery, enabling clients to experience designs from project concept through to execution, supported by expertise across industries and disciplines.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support and lead education projects.
  • Work alongside the Education Lead.
  • Lead a team of engineers, energy modellers, and BIM technicians from concept to RIBA Stage 3.
  • Manage projects through final contractor proposal and construction stages.
  • Develop design and modelling processes, ensuring compliance with DfE requirements.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Experience in client engagement, especially through CEM processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Financial management skills for project budgets and KPIs.
  • Resource management to ensure timely delivery.

Additionally, you will:

  • Support architects and energy modellers in delivering modelling requirements.
  • Coordinate with BIM team to meet project schedules.
  • Challenge design solutions for optimal outcomes.
  • Contribute to education sector development and business initiatives.
